X. Deploy Collaborative Processes & Tools
Process & Tool Strategy
In order for the new IT governance structure to successfully collaborate,
adapt and continue to self-organize, the IT will want to deploy various
processes and tools. These processes and tools include traditional IT
disciplines that have evolved over time along with communication, facilitation,
collaboration and other tools and techniques that help distributed teams work
together more effectively.
As one of their first tasks, the architecture, project
office, internal consulting and other applicable hubs should investigate, obtain
where deemed applicable, customize and deploy key disciplines as follows.
- Internet / Intranet tools.
- Collaborative tools that support the capabilities to have on-line
meetings.
- Collaborative design techniques for distributed projects.
- Project planning, project management and project scenario templates.
- Organizational modeling.
- Requirements and workflow analysis.
- Data analysis, data design and systems design.
- Development techniques for various environments.
- Legacy analysis, integration and transformation.
- Software asset management.
- Change and production control.
- Testing, validation and verification.
- Documentation - particularly through the use of automated tools and
repositories.
- Maintenance of software and related environments.
- Quality reviews by peers and external oversight hubs.
Process & Tool Deployment
The following process and tool deployment guidelines may be applied to the
IT infrastructure.
- The architecture team is responsible for packaging these disciplines and
distributing them to all hubs.
- The internal consulting hub trains participants in the use of these
methods, processes and tools.
- The architecture team works with the project office and internal
consulting to reinforce the use of these disciplines.
- On-line discussions should be established so that all participants can
openly share the value, or lack thereof, of various processes, tools and
approaches.
- The architecture team creates feedback loops, tracks successes and
failures, and adjusts processes and tools where required.
- Compliance issues may be addressed directly with coordinating hubs as
needed.
